Faith United Methodist  Foundation

The Faith United Methodist Foundation was established  by Faith United Methodist Church in Rockville, Maryland, to support not-for-profit organizations providing essential services in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area.  The Foundation was founded and approved by a Charge Conference of the church on December 3, 1996, and granted 501c(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service.

The Foundation accepts gifts, donations, and legacies and is governed by a Board of Directors appointed annually by the church’s Leadership Board. Contributions to the Foundation are prudently invested, and investment earnings are distributed periodically through grants.

CONTRIBUTIONS

The Foundation is a resource that strengthens the presence of the Church in the community, today and for generations to come. It is not intended to replace or reduce annual pledges, which support the Church’s operating budget and ongoing community outreach.

Contributions to the Foundation become a lasting expression of generosity—an investment that continues to serve others long after the gift is donated. The Foundation contributes every dollar to support worthwhile community projects and programs, with no deductions for Foundation or Church administrative expenses.

GRANTS

The Foundation has approved a policy to award funds each year generated by the positive difference between the growth in the corpus minus the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).   One-time, non-recurring grants are awarded to charitable organizations offering projects and programs that have a positive impact on the local region. Grant applications are evaluated according to their alignment with the mission of the Church and the United Methodist Church's Social Principles.

Each grant recipient must be an IRS‑approved, charitable organization and  must submit proof of its 501(c) 3 designation.  The maximum grant to any one organization currently is limited to $2,500.  The Foundation typically sets an application period of several weeks in the spring.

A LASTING GIFT FOR FUTURE MINISTRY

All contributions to the Foundation and to the Church are appreciated.  Whether for the Foundation or the Church, legacy and estate planning offer a meaningful avenue for designating gifts that will provide sustained support for programs well into the future.
