Rev. Dr. Laura Norvell

Pastor

The Rev. Dr. Laura Norvell is a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary. After working in non-profit fund development for more than 20 years, she was ordained a full elder in the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church in May 2018.  Appointed to Faith in 2019, she has also worked at Grace UMC in Gaithersburg, Liberty Grove UMC in Burtonsville, Emmanuel UMC in Laurel and Ferndale UMC in Glen Burnie since 2004.

Deeply rooted in a belief in the grace and gifts given all of God’s children, her call is to build relationships among people so that people are transformed and transforming, thereby growing and leading the body of Christ to make disciples for the transformation of the world. Pastor Laura is a writer, an avid reader, a yogi and an aspiring chef – Indian food is the favorite, although she’s also experimenting with sourdough and other baking projects.

Pastor Laura is married to the Rev. Dr. Matt Norvell, ordained in the American Baptist Church, who is a professional chaplain working at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and teaching internationally on spirituality, self-care and patient safety. Matt gardens for his peace after long days at the hospital and specializes in cultivating heirloom tomatoes.

Together, Laura and Matt love to travel, to entertain, to garden, and to hang out with their young adult kids now sprinkled throughout the Northeast. They also deeply love their four-legged kids, Daisy and Reba.
