Local Missions

How can you serve at Faith Church?
We have a heritage of serving others in our local community and in the world. Our goal is to provide service and care for our church family and extending the circle of caring into the local community.  Serve opportunities include include prayer ministries, local and international work trips,  meals to local homeless shelters and, food and clothing drives. Faith UMC supports "Re-building Together" and Habitat for Humanity and we are a part of the network of CMMC and CMR congregations.

Needlework Ministry
"They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous and ready to share"
1 Timothy 6:18. The works of our hands can comfort those in need or celebrate a joyful event.  Made in Faith, our needlework ministry group, meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the church parlor.  If you love to knit, crochet or quilt, or would like to learn,  this ministry is for you.   By crafting prayer shawls, baby layettes, lap quilts, scarves and similar items, we express our care for others and our willingness to pray for them.  Each meeting opens with a devotion and closes with our blessing the works that will be given to others.  If you are unable to attend the Wednesday evening meetings, you can be a "virtual" member of the group. Contact the office at 301-881-1881 for more information.

Faith Card Ministry
The Faith Card Ministry began in February 2006 from an idea based on our small group study If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat!  It is a group always open to new members!  Our active members make or purchase cards to send to Faith members on our prayer list.  Our handmade cards carry a boat logo and Faith Card Ministry inscription on the back.  Our talented members share their skills for computer creativity, stamping, photos, special cut-outs, and general crafts.  Inspirational messages, including Bible verses are a part of our greetings.  Please contact the church office office@faithworkshere.com if you know of someone who is in need.
Stephen Ministries
Stephen Ministry is a ministry of specially trained compassionate people who minister and care for someone in crisis, in our church family. The crisis can be anything from loss of a loved one to just needing care and support. The care is confidential, and the care is Christian care. It is truly a ministry of love.
Dorothy Day Shelter Meals
The second Sunday of each month, individuals, families, or groups at Faith Church provide and deliver the evening meal for the 15 to 20 women in residence at Dorothy Day Place, 251 N. Stone Street, Rockville, a transitional shelter for homeless women.
Sophia House
As Community Ministries of Rockville was planning to celebrate 30 years of building a better Rockville community, a new and pressing need was being met - Sophia House. It had become apparent that a need existed in the community for a transitional shelter for vulnerable women. Such a shelter should address their needs in the areas of housing, community service and physical and mental health. It is operated in a county facility in partnership with three non-profit organizations. Prior to this time a private shelter existed for homeless women during the winter months but no place existed year round that would provide a safe place to sleep, food and laundry and hygiene facilities. Sophia House provides that place. Members of Faith Church provide meals for the Sophia House on the second Friday of every month. We buy, prepare, deliver, and serve the dinner meal at 6:30 p.m. for 30 women. We also provide for a light breakfast but not lunches.
Community Based Shelter
Each year for one week, Faith Church fully supports the Community Ministry of Montgomery County homeless shelter, purchasing, preparing, delivering, and serving all the food and supplies needed to sustain the residents through that time.
Friends in Action
Friends in Action is a program of Community Ministry of Montgomery County that links volunteer mentoring teams with low-income families who are trying to get their lives together. We are currently mentoring a family of four.
Table of Sharing
We contribute food to Rockville FISH at any time during the year by placing your donation of canned foods (no glass items please!) on our Table of Sharing in the area at the back of our church sanctuary.
